What is Chain of Thought?
Chain of Thought is a prompting technique that encourages an AI to show its work. Instead of jumping straight to a final answer, the system writes out the logical steps it takes to reach a conclusion. By breaking a complex problem into smaller, manageable pieces, the AI is less likely to make mistakes or overlook important details. This mimics how a human might solve a difficult puzzle or a multi-step math problem by thinking through each stage carefully before finalizing the result.
Why this matters to you
This approach significantly improves the reliability of AI outputs for your daily tasks. When you ask an AI to explain its reasoning, you can verify its logic, catch errors early, and ensure the final recommendation is based on a sound process rather than a lucky guess. It is especially useful for strategic planning, data analysis, and complex decision-making where the process is just as important as the final answer.
How you might hear this
If you want the AI to write a better project plan, ask it to use a chain of thought approach to ensure every step is logical.
