What is an Embedding?
An embedding is a way of converting text, images, or other data into long lists of numbers that represent meaning. Computers cannot understand words or pictures directly, so they translate these items into coordinates in a multi-dimensional space. Words with similar meanings or contexts end up with similar number patterns. This is how an AI understands that car and automobile are related, while car and banana are not.
